JC Sulzenko’s 2nd poetry collection, Bricolage, A Gathering of Centos, was published by Aeolus House in the fall of 2021.
Launched online and at readings, this collection of centos was a finalist for the national 2022 Fred Kerner Book Award from the Canadian Authors Association.
Centos take lines written by other poets from different eras and continents to create new poems, independent in meaning and from their source material. Bricolage includes keys with line-by-line acknowledgment of original sources, as well as bibliographic notes.
Bricolage comes out under JC’s pseudonym, A. Garnett Weiss, which she uses when she writes found poetry to give her distance from her lyric or narrative work.
Comments from Olive Senior, Keith Garebian and Gregory Betts on the book’s back cover include these observations:
“Just when we need to refashion and repurpose comes Bricolage, leading us back to the origins of the poem as a ‘thing made.’ From bits and pieces, A. Garnett Weiss has carefully stitched together poems that present themselves as entirely fresh and hauntingly new, while paying home to the originals. A tour de force.”
Olive Senior, author of Pandemic Poems
“This meticulously assembled collection radiates wit and sensitivity, its poems entering the heart through the mind, with the best ones shimmering like the aurora borealis while dealing with inscrutability, impermanence, and vagaries of the psyche. The poems are musings, often tinged with melancholy about life’s “separate uncertainties,” yet they sing” at the edge of things” often with “the restlessness of rapture.”
Keith Garebian, author of Against Forgetting
“Bricolage resounds with the echo of greatness, finely chiselled into a composition, a recomposition, a deposition on the value of recurrence. They signal a new way to read the world and find rich golden veins in borrowed words.”
Gregory Betts, author of Psychic Geographies and Other Topics.
